Welcome to Year 1 of Elements Education

As you journey through this course, you are expected to learn the different foundations in hairdressing, exploring the basic theories of hair. This year will train you in executing the right techniques in perfecting the blow-dry, cutting, colouring and theory.

Buckle up as you embark on the first year of your journey with Elements!

Perfecting the blow-dry

1. Straight Blow-Dry

The first blow-dry teaches you how to create a straight & sleek hairstyle suitable for all hair lengths & textures. Learn the proper handling & settings of the hairdryer to create this straight blow-dry.

2. Volume with a Flick

This technique provides you with volume and movement, think of a Victoria’s Secret model. It is great for medium length or long hair.

3. Curly Blow-Dry

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create laid back curls that will add movement and volume to your client’s hair. The proper techniques in handling and setting the hairdryer to avoid damage are also explored in this lesson.

3.2 Twisted Curly Diffuse

This is an additional video for your learning. It is important to cover various different textures in hair styling. In this tutorial Paul shows you how to create a defined diffused curl by using a twisting technique. Paul explains his favourite curling product to achieve the best curls. This is a regular style that is often required in the salon environment.

4. Wrap Blow-Dry

This blow dry greatly highlights versatility as it can be executed in graduation shapes, fringes, and even for long hair, making it straight, smooth, and stretched, suitable for all hair textures. Learn the right tools and techniques in achieving the wrap blow dry.

5. Set

This technique is a quick and easy way to achieve volume. There are many different brands of heated rollers and they all achieve the same result.

Hair Prepping

This technique is a quick and easy way to prepare hair for setting, curling irons, pin up and editorial hair.

Cutting

One Length Haircut

Whenever we start cutting, there is no place better than a one length haircut. Having said that, NOTE: you always cover a one length haircut in the first technique ‘Square Layer’ below. However, I really wanted to hone in on the starting point for you as you will learn sectioning, combing, and cutting with zero elevation. Please progress to the square layer after 3 attempts.

6. Square Layer

In the first weeks of the hair cutting practicals, learn how to effectively execute the versatile square layer that gives you defining layers. You will be guided on the right body positions, sectioning, elevations and texturing techniques while creating your square layers.

7. Round Layer

In the next 10 weeks you will firm up your sectioning and elevations by learning how to create a round layer technique. You will be guided on the right body positions, sectioning, elevations and texturing techniques while creating this round layer technique.

Colouring

8. Global Colour

The Global Colour technique is best used for either permanent or semi-permanent colouring. Learn how to apply an all over colour professionally.

Weaving

Learn how to weave ahead of your first highlighting technique. We have 5 different types of weaving techniques to show you. In addition, Stephen will show you how to place and maintain tension while putting your foils in place.

9. T Section

Learn how to create the T Section, suitable for clients who want to venture on highlights or lowlights. The right techniques in the positioning of colours on the top & sides of hair will be explored with the right tools & appropriate body positions in creating this look.

10. Classic Half Head Highlights

The Classic Half Head Highlights is suitable for clients who want to explore different tones in their hair. This style is both applicable for highlighting and low-lighting for all hair types excluding those that are seriously damaged. Learn the right techniques with the proper tools and products to achieve this look.
